Center of Origin Reproduction Toxins Allergenicity

The earliest fossil record of rose was found in Alaska and dates back to the Paleocene epoch which ended 58 million years ago. Roses were widely dispersed by the Oligocene epoch, million years ago, in the western USA, Europe, and Asia.

Members of the Rosa genus reproduce via seeds, including seeds produced by apomixis, and asexually from stem cuttings and rhizomes.

There have been no reports in the literature of toxicity of rose plant parts. Rosa gallica contains pyrogallol tannins in levels that may cause symptoms such as gastroenteritis if ingested.

Although there are reports of occupational rose allergies, there is no conclusive evidence that rose plant parts or products made from rose plants cause allergic reactions.

Escherichia coli is one of a number of microorganisms which are normal inhabitants of the colons of virtually all warm-blooded mammals. Ecoli belongs to the taxonomic family known asEnterobacteriaceae, which is one of the best-defined groups of bacteria. The strain Ecoli K-12 is a debilitated strain which does not normally colonize the human intestine. It has also been shown to survive poorly in the environment, has a history of safe commercial use, and is not known to have adverse effects on microorganisms or plants.
